Drills and why we do them

Training for a multi-sport event is tough just because you have to train for 3 sports at the same time.  It is also tough because there is more opportunity for injury.  As coaches we look for ways to supplement training with moves that will strengthen, prevent injury and make us faster.  Here is a great article that explains each drill and why we do them at practices.Essential Drills for Multi-Sport Athletes

PRACTICE GUIDELINES UPDATED 6/15/14

UPDATED PLEASE READ:
REMINDER: Please always be prepared for practice!
At any practice you could be asked to use any of the tools that we use in training for example FINS for SWIM or RESISTANCE BANDS, we don't always use them but you ALWAYS need to bring them with you. Also if you were asked to bring an exercise mat in January you need to keep bringing the exercise mat in June. This is not optional.
If you do not own the equipment we use, one it is YOUR responsibility to borrow it whether this is out of the bin on the pool deck or from the Group Ex room or team storage BEFORE practice starts. Practice needs to start on TIME and being prepared is the best way to get this accomplished.
If you BORROW team equipment, please let your Coach know IMMEDIATELY. We are losing team equipment much of which was purchased with Coach Beth's personal money or Team money and we do not have endless pockets to replace the missing equipment. Case in point - there are missing Paddles and missing GRIDS. If you have borrowed one that is FINE. Just let me know.
BIKE TRAINERS - The trainers are starting to break down. I need you to take care of these trainers just like they were your own. I purchased these trainers with my own money to provide this option to the team and I need these trainers to last for a while longer. If a trainer is having an issue, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. Don't force it. If it is a class that I am not present, please mark the trainer and let me know via text or email as soon as you can. Jose from Advanced Cycles has offered to help us get the trainers fixed that need help.
Bike Trainers and PM Swim Lanes are on a First SignUp Basis ONLY. Please remember to sign up for each practice. We have been running out of trainers and some of your teammates who reserved a trainer were stuck without one.
The next requirement for practice is NUTRITION and HYDRATION. Training for an endurance event is NOT a diet plan. If you do not eat and drink appropriately you WILL get injured. Healthy eating in tandem with exercise will lose body fat and build healthy muscle. Numbers on the scale are not the way to determine if you are healthy. If you do not eat enough or drink enough while training you will actually store more fat. If you do not understand this, please talk with your coaches.
It is a REQUIREMENT that you bring FLUIDS to ALL PRACTICES including SWIM. If you do not bring Hydration with you, it is up to the Coach leading the training as to whether you are allowed to participate in that session. Remember - we have your HEALTH and SAFETY as the most important goal for each session.
FINALLY, In addition to the standard requirement of having the right equipment and nutrition, you need to know the results of your HR and threshold testing. You MUST memorize them. If you need help, please print out your results and bring them to practice. It is not the coaches responsibility to memorize all of your data.
Please let me know if you don't understand any of the above.
